Evangelism and Outreach

Mission: To provide leadership for activities and financial support for local and world ministries consistent with the Gospel message of loving one another.

This team meets several times each year to respond to local needs and world ministries. Currently, mission workers in Spain and in Africa are supported financially and through communication.

Locally, faith-based Associated Charities serves as the Ashland community’s center for responding to short term needs of residents. Financial support is provided through First Presbyterian Church as determined by the Evangelism and Outreach Team. Additionally, monthly donations of specific non-perishable foods, person care items, and paper supplies are collected for delivery to Associated Charities. Each year, contributions of peanut butter and jelly are brought in during June as a way to supplement lunches for children during summer vacation. We donate jeans for school age children as part of Associated Charities’ Back to School program. Mittens and scarves are shared to adorn a Christmas tree during November and December, then delivered to Associated Charities.

Other local destinations of support are Fostering Families Ministry, Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Center. Ashland Pregnancy Care Center, ACCESS (ministry supporting homeless individuals), and Church Associated Bible Instruction.

Hospitality is an important outreach activity, with providing refreshments for the AA group meeting at this church, providing a meal for Ashland University football players, and taking lunches to several medical and educational offices. Delivering homemade cookies to community service groups has been a demonstration of community support.

Sharing God’s blessings with others is the team’s focus. Measurable outcomes are often not possible, but we trust that God is working through them.
